Dr. Charles Bumgardner has lived in Lexington County serving the Lexington, lrmo, Chapin, and Newberry communities for over thirty years as a dentist. He and his wife Leslie have been married for thirty-three years. He is an active member of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church where he has served as a Sunday School teacher and usher. Throughout his career, he has strived to improve the lives of others. Now, he would like the opportunity to serve the people of South Carolina Senate District 18 as their Senator.

A native of South Carolina, Charles grew up in Columbia attending public schools. After graduating from A.C. Flora High School in 1978, he attended Clemson University where he was awarded a Pre-Professional Studies degree in 1983. He earned a DMD degree from the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1986. In order to meet the needs of his patients with excellence, he elected to pursue an Advanced Degree in General Dentistry from the University of Rochester's Eastman Dental Center in Rochester, New York.

As a business owner, Dr. Bumgardner has experience in making decisions which potentially affect others; such as, generating/meeting payroll, human resource management, regulation compliance, and caring for his patients. He is also involved in the dental professional community as a member of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, and as an invited member of the American College of Dentists. In 2017, Dr. Bumgardner was elected to serve on the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry representing the 2nd Congressional District. He has enjoyed the challenges of making the most of opportunities presented.

Charles has been a strong supporter of Christian outreach through his work with YOUNG LIFE. He is an avid sailor on Lake Murray and has served on the Board of Stewards of the Columbia Sailing Club. He also enjoys hunting, scuba diving, and motor boating. He and Leslie have two adult children.
